Creator & affiliate attribution
How smartlinks tie every session and sale back to the right partner.
Creator & affiliate attribution
Attribution is the heart of Comet. A smartlink ties traffic and sales back to the partner who drove them — at the session level.
Why session-level attribution
The usual methods leak:
- UTMs get stripped by Instagram and other apps.
- Coupon codes miss every order placed without the code.
Because a smartlink points at a store that is the partner's store, attribution doesn't depend on a tag surviving the journey. Comet gives you the number your CFO actually asks about: what did this partnership deliver.
Creating a smartlink
When you create a smartlink you tag it with:
- Source type — Creator or Campaign.
- Platform — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, affiliate, email, paid social, or other.
- Creator handle or campaign name, plus an optional display name and discount code.
Share that one link wherever the partner posts. Every click, session, and order flowing through it is attributed to that partner.
Ramp traffic safely
A smartlink doesn't have to send 100% of traffic to the new store on day one. By default it can route to your existing Shopify storefront, and you ramp the share going to the Comet Checkout Store as you gain confidence — effectively an A/B test of the new store against your current site.
What you can measure
- Sessions, add-to-carts, and orders per partner
- Conversion rate per store and per channel
- Attributed revenue over any date range, for reconciling affiliate payouts against verified sales
Creator & affiliate attribution is included from the Growth plan up. See Plans, billing & usage.
